Age limit?
As we offer such a variety of courses, for further training and
therapy training as well as for those who wish to be professional
actors, there are no age restrictions for applicants.
However, if you wish to apply for the full acting training and
are older than the average entrance age for drama schools (24)
we'd be happy to offer advice in your choice of occupation.

Financing my studies
There are two possible ways of getting financial support:
BAföG
The MTSB is a private acting school - according to paragraph 102
of the Education Act of the State of Berlin. As such, students
of the MTSB are able to apply for a state grant (BAföG). However,
students who receive BAföG cannot apply for support from the Studienfonds.
Other grants
As well as the two above, the MTSB is also in contact with other
grant institutions which offer student support.

Audition dates
The MTSB has no fixed dates for auditions. Up until shortly before
the start of the school year you can still apply. However, after
the year has started, we will only consider the auditioning of
late applicants under very particular circumstances. As soon as
we receive your application, we will send you an invitation to
an audition. The auditions will take place in small groups to
enable us to observe each individual applicant.

Skipping the Advanced Class
Entrance into the first year is dependent upon successful completion
of the Foundation Year. However, in the event of students who
have begun their studies elsewhere and wish to continue them at
the MTSB, it is possible to audition directly for the first year.
In these cases we expect the applicant to have a good working
knowledge (practical and theoretical) of the Chekhov Method (imagination
and embodiment, atmospheres, centres, psychological gesture) as
well as experience in and an understanding of the basic elements
of the Stanislavski technique (especially in relation to the w-questions
and practical experience with subtext). We also expect an audition
comprising two monologues from different epochs as well as the
recitation of a poem or an epic text.

The lessons are in German so foreigners should have a very good

Can I observe your lesson for my practical
experience?
Yes, you would be very welcome. But we would appreciate it if
you would ring to let us know when you want to come. You would
also need to get in contact with the other teachers to find out
what times would suit them.

Do I have to enrol for the whole study
package, or can I apply to join single lessons?
You can take part in single activities (basic training, Aikido,
Feldenkrais, etc).
But you would need to speak to the individual teachers about space,
etc. and you would also have to commit for the whole trimester.

Would it be possible to work alongside
my studies?
We understand that it may be necessary for some of our students
to work alongside their studies in order to keep afloat. However,
we know from experience that shortly before the end of the trimester
rehearsals can become quite frequent and intense. As a result
we would encourage students to find work with very flexible hours.

What are the lesson times?
Foundation Year:
The main lessons are from Monday to Friday between 9.00 and 13.00.
On top of this there are two afternoon courses. For the scene
work, which begins in the second trimester, two further afternoons
will be required.
In the third trimester work will start on the play and here again
students will need an extra two afternoons.
The weekly lessons amount to c. 40 hours, but in the final rehearsal
period this can reach as much as 60 hours.
Years One to Three:
The students take part in the basic training of the Chekhov Year
and, as this is always in the morning, their other lessons will
all be in the afternoon and early evening. In project work the
students arrange their schedules with the individual teachers.
